MESSIAH – that’s a BIG title. In Greek, CHRISTOS, or CHRIST, “ANNOINTED ONE.” The Jews knew there could only be one, and they waited anticipating His coming. What would He be like? Some said a KING, some said a SERVANT – who would be right?
Then, at the exact right moment, He came. ( Matt 2:1-4) There He was, the DELIVERER, The LORD OF HOSTS wrapped in a blanket, A BABY, crying under the stars that He placed in the sky. (Col 1:16) This didn’t quite fit the expectations of a nation in need of a MIGHTY KING. (John 1:11)
He grew up in a little backwoods town called Nazareth – they watched with anticipation. At 30, He was baptized and began His priestly ministry. He hung out with all the “wrong people” – partiers, tax collectors, Romans!! (Matt 11:19) Then, He got His chance. He went before Herod, then the powerful Pilate…but said nothing in His own defense. The only CROWN He would wear was twisted from a thorn bush.
They led Him bruised and beaten to a cursed place and nailed Him up to die like a common criminal.(Matt 27:38)
He rose up from that place of death and was crowned KING OF KINGS, LORD OF LORDS – the biggest turn around of all time. (Phil 2:6-11) Now, If you call upon the name of JESUS, believing that God raised Him from the dead, you will be SAVED from sin and given ETERNAL life. (Rom 10:9) He died for you, will you LIVE FOR HIM?
