Jesus’ ministry began with these words, “the time has come…the Kingdom of God is near! Turn from your sins and BELIEVE this Good News!” (Mark 1:15) You BELIEVE in God’” Jesus said, “BELIEVE also in Me.” (John 14:1)
The term ‘BELIEVE’ has many facets. One Hebrew term expresses a personal sense of safety – to “TRUST in the Lord with all your heart.” (Prov 3:5,6) Another is a DEPENDENCE during a time of need. David proclaimed to God, “I TAKE REFUGE in You.” (Psalm 7:1)
To BELIEVE is also to PERSIST in a simple hope, or WAITING for. “Those who wait on the Lord, will renew their strength.” wrote the Prophet Isaiah. (Isa 40:31) Yet another aspect of BELIEVING stresses a firmness and stability of RELATIONSHIP. “KNOW therefore that the Lord your God is God…keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations.” (Deut 7:9) To TRUST and OBEY is to BELIEVE. “Abram BELIEVED the Lord, and it was counted to him as righteousness. (Gen 15:6)
In the New Testament, BELIEF is the key to salvation. “BELIEVE in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved!” (Acts 16:31) “Whoever BELIEVES in Him will not be put to shame.” (Rom 10:11) So, what do YOU believe in?
